They tried desperately to get him out of the position he was wedged in. However, it all changed with one tragic incident. Before it was sealed off in 2009, the Nutty Putty Cave drew in explorers and spelunkers from all over the world. John eventually died on the evening of November 25, 2009, stuck upside down, in the narrow passage from heart failure after a huge rescue effort by over 100 volunteers.
